Book Search - Items with Current Availability Limit
When serving a walk-in patron. I need to be able to conduct a “Book Search” for items currently available (i.e. in house on the shelf) limited to my location/branch. Currently when I attempt this with Book Search by combining the search limit “limit by branch” and the checked box label “available items” the search results unhelpfully include books that the library has a copy of regardless if checked out or on the shelf. ...more »
When serving a walk-in patron. I need to be able to conduct a “Book Search” for items currently available (i.e. in house on the shelf) limited to my location/branch. Currently when I attempt this with Book Search by combining the search limit “limit by branch” and the checked box label “available items” the search results unhelpfully include books that the library has a copy of regardless if checked out or on the shelf. Therefore, I still have to tunnel through the results list searching for books currently on the shelf and the patron is kept waiting entirely too long for books. As we are situated in the main branch of a large public library, we have frequent walk-ins, so this is ultimately a quality customer service need. However, I also think this would greatly benefit many readers’ advisors providing one-on-one book selection service by phone as well. It would be a BIG time saver.
REQUEST CLEARLY DEFINED: an option in “Book Search” for books currently checked-in and available on the shelf.
